In 2015, Rabbi Gabriel Sassoon lost seven of his pure, beautiful children in a devastating house fire. The date? Rosh Chodesh Nissan, the exact same day in the Torah that Aaron the High Priest tragically lost his two sons, Nadav and Avihu.

In this unforgettable episode of Parasha Deep Dive, host Shlomo Godsi sits down with Rabbi Sassoon for one of the most raw, heartbreaking, and ultimately triumphant conversations about faith you will ever hear. Rabbi Sassoon shares the unbelievable story of the night he lost everything, how he actively chose to "surrender his ego" to survive, and how his tragedy unlocks the deepest mysteries of Parashat Acharei Mot.

We journey deep into the text to answer profound questions alongside the generation's greatest teachers: Why did Aaron's sons really die? Why is getting close to God actually dangerous? And why do we "bribe the Satan" on Yom Kippur?

In This Episode, We Explore:

The Ultimate Surrender: How to let go of your identity when life shatters your reality.

The Rapture of Nadav & Avihu: Why they didn't die from "sin," but from a fatal desire to merge completely with God's fire.

The Danger of Holiness: Why extreme closeness to Hashem requires strict boundaries.

Bribing the Satan: The Kabbalistic secret of the Azazel (scapegoat) on Yom Kippur and why a world without evil would destroy free will.

The Reincarnation into Pinchas: How the souls of Aaron's sons found their ultimate rectification.

Shlomo Godsi

On the Alshech's Yortzeit, I Received a Message... After morning prayers in the Alshech Shul, I would learn the Alshech’s Torah, just me and him. It was an intimate process that began my close connection with this great sage. Then, on Erev Pesach 2023, at 2 AM, I received a clear message: open a center of learning here, at the Alshech Shul, for the English-speaking communities around the world. I later realized that very night was the Alshech’s Yortzeit. That realization still gives me the chills! This Academy is not just a project; it is a response to a divine call. I humbly ask you to join me in answering it.
